Sacrificial anodes

How often do you need to replace the anodes. How can you tell when they need to be replaced. Could this explain why my reverse gate paints is peeling or it's corroding?

Would this be a result of the anodes. What steps should I take from here?
 
The anode needs to be kept clean in order for it to work. Also, the metal directly under it needs to be very clean as it is the bolt that passes through the anode and makes a connection to the metal that makes the system work. Your one is in great need to be scrubbed and cleaned. I'd scrub them all, remove them, make sure it is clean under them and that the threads are nice and clean for the bolt.
 
Just went to go take the anode off the reverse gate only to find out the screw was stripped and appeared to be glued in. Probably from my last 100hr service at dealer. Do I need to replace my reverse gate?

If the screw only holds the anode, then no.. Simply clean the area and nut and bolt it if there is room for a nut. If there isn't room, find another place and drill and thread the hole.

The anode does nor care where it is other than on the metal surfaces..
 
So I took apart the jet nozzle and looked at all the anodes and cleaned them all off, for now only 1 needs to be replaced. I got a longer screw for the reverse gate and it now threads and gets to 71 lbin. The anode that needs to be replaced it on the reverse gate so its a min to replace tomorrow when I got to SBT and pick up a anode. Thanks for all the help. My only other question was is the reason the paint is coming off because of the anodes, or it in normal wear and tear, and if so how should I repaint? Also the 4 allen screws that hold the jet nozzle and the bracket on, do they only need to be torqued to 15 ftlb? Seems not the tight to me.

I'd have to look up the torque specs to check on the nozzle bolts.

The paint issue could be many things or a few combined. The sinks need to be cleaned and touching the bare metal (or the bolts holding them touching bare metal) or they will not work. If the ground cables from the battery to the engine are not in great condition and have a great connection at the ends, as soon as the ski is in the water the water will affect the ground. Which will affect the paint as well.

It is true. Just as a ground issue can, and does, affect a ski differently if it is on the trailer as compared to it being in the water.

Electrolysis is based on current. Galvanic corrosion is very similar but slightly different.

Electrolysis cannot occur on a lone piece of metal in water, because if it is isolated, no current can flow, meaning there is no electrolysis. However, when your first piece of metal is connected to a differing type of metal, you just created a virtual battery and electrolysis will begin. In short, if your boat was constructed by bonding everything in the boat, the craft is essentially a battery, and electrolysis becomes a major problem.
 
I agree with your statement and will add the following. Once the ski hits the water you have just connect all the metal parts due to the connectivity of the water, and if in salt water, the connectivity increases.
