RXX - What's it worth?

Found a guy that has an RXX with a blown top end. The ski is not for sale, but he and I have done a good bit of business together, and if his son (who wants to rebuild it) is up for it, we'll be doing a deal. What would you guys pay? I love rare stuff, and I offered a possible trade for a 95 XP 800X but I'm not really sure what to offer in terms of cash... thoughts? The thing about 800X skis is that you can still find them, and people don't really know what they are. RXXs come up once in a great while, and everyone who owns one seems to know what they have... I dont know of a single RXX for sale under 4K... full disclosure, I know of only one for sale, and I check craigslist on a daily basis for the western US.

Any RXX owners out there?

Oh yeah I just did the RXX thing twice and I have all those answers for ya. People don't give a crap how rare it is unless you find that really special buyer. They had flaws and never were reliable. Make it reliable and loose the originality. They are not that fast and handle like a loaded dump truck.

I think they look great, I think they are cool, but I would not buy another unless it was around 3K. When you get over the "cool" factor then it's time to start explaining the RXX story to potential buyers. Most of them look at you like "your trying to get 4Kish for an 01? I can get an 07 for that".

Rare? Kinda. Fun to ride? No. The RX hull began the obese ski platform. Your X4 hull is way more fun.

Reliable? The 951 already has a 'short' life of 200 hours. Now you slam 30 more HP out of it?

Your going to do 'just a top end' on an over tweaked 14 year old engine?

You going to rebuild only the second floor after a fire?

Have fun rebuilding it, but do it right (whole engine). And test drive it before you buy it.

I like the thought of the RXX. But after riding a RX. It's a fairly boring ski...

Sure it's big, stable, etc. But it's not my XP.

I've seen that one but I don't like the blue. There is one down in Jax but he found it blown, put the engine together in the garage and has not wet tested it. There is a clean one in Ca that comes on Ebay but the guy seems firm at 5K.

I ended up giving my 57hour minty one away for 3K plus that 95 XP800X that was an incomplete basket case. Now I need to fix and sell another ski just to try to get near breaking even. Good thing I like to save cool Seadoos

Honestly it was the wifemobile. She liked how stable it was and the single piped one ran predictably. The twin piper had awesome acceleration and tone but there was no "cruise". It was impossible to run between 4 and 6k (rpm) right in that sweet spot where you do most your riding.

Oh and there is no staying dry because the pissers flow warm water all over your right leg. No fuel gauge, tach only.

I've been on the RX hull, (not RXX) although only for a couple of short rides, and honestly, I wasn't that impressed, was a pretty heavy hull, quite stable, but a bit sluggish overall. Most definitely a comfortable ride, Like the GTX Limited and better looking than the GTX but was still missing the fun factor that i'd prefer. IMO if your going 2 stroke, the X4 or GSX Limited hulls were my two favorites.

If your going to ride that big of a hull w/o mods then you should expect a stable, comfortable ride but more of a comfort cruiser than a sport model. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just saying... it is what it is.

That ad stats (in part) "this ski isn't for you"

I'll take - how not to sell your jet ski for 300 please Alex
