Running 720 Rotax with garden hose to flush Engine

I've read a few posts about this and not sure I understand how to properly flush the engine with the hose hook ups on the top of the engine compartment.

I hook up hose, turn on engine, then turn on water at about 1/2 pressure. Do I need to pinch off the hose behind the T so that water doesn't come back out the transom or does it still flow into the engine and throughout without doing this? How long should I do this or how long can I do this?

Btw, this is on a 1998 Sportster 1800

There is no need to pinch the lines. In theory, you can run the motors forever on the hose. In practice, the carbon ring on the drive shaft is not getting any water to cool/lubricated it, so maybe a minute at most.

Just remember to turn the water off first before shutting the motor off, otherwise you may be flushing the interior of the motor!!

Yes, if you are going to flush from that point you must pinch off the hose or the water just runs out of the transom. Just flush from the transom port and no need to pinch hoses.
