Routing Transducer Wire

I don't want to drill through my transom.

I am considering running my transducer wire through one of the deck drain through hulls but with a twist.

What I am considering doing is putting a TEE in the hose in the engine compartment. The side port on the TEE would use a reducing bushing to a watertight bulkhead fitting for wiring with conduit - this is where the transducer wire would exit. Further toward the cockpit, I would put in one of those generic deck drain ball check valves. The valve would prevent outside water flowing in like the factory ball check does and I can seal off the transducer wire without adding another hole in my hull.

Any concerns or reasons that this idea sucks?

My old Sportster 1800 that I bought used had a transducer on the transom. Whoever installed it used one of the unused "ports" on the jet pump mounting plate and then sealed it up. That put a hole in the transom where one was provisioned for anyway. Just a thought.

On your idea, it's still a hole in the boat, but recessed to not require drilling through the fiberglass. Pretty creative, in my opinion. If that hole sits above the water line, I'd be even more comfortable with it.

Just drill a hole, blob some 5200 around the area and it will never leak. Don't over complicate things ;)

Quick side question to this and people who have installed transducers. I was told that jet boats mess with the transducer differently than prop boats. Has something to do with the way the water is moved. Can anyone confirm?

It has to be placed somewhere to the side, away from the intake grate. On a twin engine, I put mine right in the center.
