Rotax 717 Magneto Timing

Hello,

I’m trying to figure out what is the proper procedure is for magneto timing on a Rotax 717. I just got a rebuild from SBT and it’s going in a 97 sportster. I cannot find any timing marks on the stator. Also, I was wondering where the pistons need to be, if it needs to be at TDC, or firing position?

Great picture, I found it! Thank you! Do you know which way turning the stator advances or retards the ignition? I know I have to line up the marks, but I’m just curious.

Your welcome but you should thank @etemplet for the picture, I remembered seeing it in a post I had read and thought it might help. I don’t know which way advances but if you search on google like this advance timing site:Seadoo forum.com you will get tons of information from old threads on this site

Manual says adjusting armature Plate clockwise you retard and counterclockwise to advance which I would not do.

Yep Clockwise is the direction of engine rotation so that will retard the timing. Good Luck !

Do not mess with the timing, align the marks and move on.
