Have a challenger twin engine. Went to un-winterize the boat today cause I was gonna post it for sale. Well I topped of the gas, changed the plugs, made sure had oil in it and charged the battery.

Both engines fired quick and easy after choking. Battery still acted weak so I let it charge a little longer and went to start it again. One of the engines acts as if it's locked up after starting fine from setting all winter. Pulled the pto shield and won't turn, pulled plugs still won't turn. Thought maybe starter had jammed so I pulled it and everything still locked up. Plan on pulling water pump tomorrow to see if it motor or jet pump. Any ideas? Everything was winterized and fogged before winter, plus ain't had to many days below freezing.

Just don't make since after starting fine then locking up. I didn't even let it run, shut it down right after firing!

Well.... anything could have happened, since the situation isn't normal/common. If the starter is out, and the pump is off... I would think about a bolt falling into the RV or something in the MAG. BUT, on the 720 engine... it's easy to take the head off, and take a look inside.

Do you have an impeller tool? You can pull the pump and drive shaft, put the impeller tool in the pto hole and try to turn like that.

I actually had the same thing happen to me, but on 657x. The crank case must have had some water in it or it was just time to fail.

I would try the impeller tool first and see if that will get it freed up.

In my case, the bearing on the pto end of the crank gave up. Very crunchy feel.

Well I loosened the pump and pulled it back some, not all the way back but just the little I did seemed to free the motor up some. Probably in the jet pump side

Here is my problem

I have a guy wanting to buy the boat, said he's not worried about the impeller being messed up but said he would like to know if the motor ran. Can I start the motor with the pump off?

Yes you can start it with the pump off... IF... you remove the drive shaft. DO NOT start the engine will the drive shaft still in the PTO !!!!!!!!!!!!! It could sling around, and destroy things.

Just service the pump, and call it a day. (Assuming that's where the issue is)

How do I service the pump

That usually includes replacing bearings and seals, pressure testing, and new oil. Replace the wear ring if the tolerance between the impeller and ring is out of spec.
