My right engine won't turn over With the spark plugs in, and with them out its still sluggish. I just replaced the starter. (Needed to be replaced)
The left engine starts and runs perfectly.
So where do I start looking for problems?

Is the starter and OEM starter?

If not, it could easily be the new starter you just got.

However, make CERTAIN the battery is good as well as all connections. If they are, then it will be the starter.

No, neither of the starters on the boat are oem, but it was doing the same thing before I replaced it. The only reason I replaced it is because one of the mounts broke off it.
The starter does not seem to be the problem, as the engine has never run well since we bought the boat last year. Where should I start looking for problems?

What he is saying is... the after market starters suck... and just becasue it's new, doesn't mean it will do the job.

BUT....

Take the spark plugs out, and remove the rear PTO cover. Then... see how stiff the drive is. (turn it by hand) With the spark plugs out... it should turn relatively easy. If it feels very stiff... then remove the pump, and see if it gets better.

Okay update, the engine and pump are super smooth.
What's next? The starter is perfect, I had it tested, and I'm getting the battery load tested tomorrow.

Had the same problem a few years back, starboard engine would turn over normal and fire right up, port engine would turn over sluggish and not start. Replace the battery, problem solved. Weird, but true. Both starters were and still are OEM from 1999. Load test proved a bad battery.

This goes back to my original post.

You MUST know for sure that the battery and the connections are very good. If you don't have that information, nothing else matters.

What is the voltage of the battery when you press and hold the starter button?

Battery was in new condition and fully charged when we got it tested... What to next? Solenoid?
In fact where is the solenoid at?
It's still pulsing instead of starting at all. The engine turns over freely without the plugs in it and the pump does too. I'm lost here lol

Try cranking it, and check a couple things:

1) watch the voltage drop on the battery. Just put a meter on the the terminals, and try to start.

2) check the power cables, to see if they are getting hot.

But... at this point... if you are 100% sure on the battery... it's the aftermarket starter. But the meter on the battery will tell us the real story. If it's getting too far below 11v... I would be suspect of the battery. Just because it's new, doesn't mean it's good.

We had the battery load tested, it's 4 years old but has no signs of wear on it. Like brand new.
So what about the solenoid? Where is it located?

Typical battery life is around 5yrs. Yours may be on its way out even if tested as good. Try another one or take the one out of your car and try it. Worth a shot. Other idea is swap starters from left to right engines and see if starter is problem.

I NEED ANSWERS! I'm impatient lol

We gave you answers. You refused to check. a bad ground wire would get hot, or show high resistance.

While I'm glad you found the problem... if you ask for help... at least check what we've asked you to do. Since we aren't there to experience what is happening... we need to be methodical, and check things in order.

This is a free forum, and the Sr members spend a lot of time here. Don't waste our time if you refuse to check the things we ask you about.

I'm really not trying to sound like an ass, or be harsh... but it's the truth. I didn't see a response on any of the things I asked you about, other than you saying... it can't be that.

I did EVERYTHING you guys told me to do. And all you came back to is non oem starters suck and my battery is bad. The ground was broken within the casing which is why I missed it. It wasn't getting hot at all.

Thanks for helping out guys.

OK... But if you checked something... you need to say... "I tested the battery with XXXX method, and it's OK" Or... "I put power directly to the starter, and it cranked"

We see a lot of bad aftermarket starters, and cheap batteries that don't work out of the box. SO... if you want help... verify, and respond back with our suggestions, even if they seem wrong.

****EDIT****

Here's a post from today. Read #3 in this thread.

Look at post #2,, it says "However, make CERTAIN the battery is good as well as all connections. If they are, then it will be the starter. "

If you would have checked the connections/wires you would have fixed the issue some time ago.

Non-OEM starters are generally bad, that is a fact... We did try to steer you in good directions. But not knowing what you did makes it impossible to further help you.
