We spent 6 hours on lake yesterday (Sunday). It was an eventful start to say the least. We choose this lake for the primary reason that's its right by a truck stop that has a scale (I had to have trailer weighed to register). Anyway, plan was to drop wife, her best friend, and our daughter off and let them hang on boat while i ran to get trailer weighed. So we get to ramp, single ramp, only 18 spots (3 Handicapped for some reason, and 3 filled just cars, no trailer!!!!<--- that makes me mad). So oh well, going to drop them anyway, maybe one will open when i get back. So put boat in, start port motor fine, starboard wont start. Wife shuts down port and tries starboard first, nothing. Then tries port again, nothing.
Crap. Battery is dead. Im thinking how, i just charged it fully on saturday and its new! I dont question, move boat out of way and anchor at beach and they just play in water while i run to truck stop and get a new battery, didnt mind buying another since i have everything for a dual set-up in my garage except the second battery. So i picked up another marine deep-cycle/starting battery, and will do the dual set-up with switch maybe over 4th, 80 bucks big deal. Got trailer weighed, back to ramp in 25 min.
WOW! what a line. Im 10 vehicles back with a bunch of new people completely unprepared. I sit patiently and wife walks to me and says turn around, ill go find a spot to park, and you change battery and come pick me up. OK, good plan. I turn Jeep and trailer around, and carry battery and tools to boat. Change battery, starts prefect.
Good, easy fix. So we head out onto lake waiting for wifes call, she finally finds a spot, so we ask people at dock she is near if we can pick her up, they say of course so we do.
After all that boat ran great. No problems except i think im taking air at one of the carbon seals. I think its just one because it will plan and when on plane no difference, but getting on plane i hear it sucking air, and not as peppy as it should be. So also this week im going to try to tighten them up to second notch until i have time to replace. Getting up on skis would be hard as is.
anyway, long start, but we persisted and did not ruin our day on the lake. and come to find out, after I charged battery and hooked up on saturday, my wife went out and cleaned the boat. when she did, she hooked the key on so it wouldnt get lost or be in the way, never took it off. My fault tho because i never told her that if you leave it on it will drain battery. Oh well, lesson learned.
