I took off the ride plate to replace it and there was some kind of gasket maker. What kind of gasket or silicon do I use to put the new one on?

100%....
Any type of 100% pure silicone sealant/adhesive will work. The trick is once you apply it, let it sit and completly cure before putting it in the water. Cure time of a minimum of 24 hours is what I'd recommend.
I don't think I'd use anything other than silicone.:cheers:
