revving problem.

I have the 98 sportster with the twin 717 85hp engines. The right motor runs great at full throttle (around 7000rpm) and never has a problem. The left engine, usually runs good for a min or so, at around 7000rpm, then falls to 5000, then revs back up to around 7, then back to 5, and does this for a while until it finally runs around 5000 rpm, no matter how far you push the throttle, even all the way up... if you pull the choke a little while it's doing this, it will rev up to 7000 and run good again for a min or so. Is something wrong with the carb? does it need to be rebuilt? or could this just be a screw setting on the carb? what do you guys recommend doing.
the boat runs fine all day long if I run both engines at around 5000 rpm.
 
I would have to say the carb more than likely needs to be cleaned. The float could be getting jammed who knows. I would clean the carbs and see if there is any debris in there and then try it again. It definitely sounds like a carb problem.

I am learning that there is a lot to these boats myself and I will not do anything besides normal work myself. That is why they have professionals out there and carbs are usually something I leave to the pros.
 
Does it still have the gray fuel lines?

They disintegrate into the fuel, and clog up everyting from the GLUE like substance that leaches out of the gray lines.

Yes, definitely starving for fuel.

If you still have the gray hoses, you should clean the WHOLE fuel system, replace the fuel lines, and clean the fuel select valves, and the little in carb filters too.

I think the fuel lines have been replaced with the black ones... but I won't have a chance to check until friday. How do I clean the fuel select valves, and I assume the little carb filters are inside the carbs? Should I just get a rebuild kit?

I just dropped my Challenger off to get winterized and I asked the mechanic about the gray lines and he said they are ok. You seem to say in every post about the gray lines. He is a 10yr Seadoo mechanic and said nothing bad about them. I have no idea if my Challenger has them or not but he seemed to know his stuff.
