reverse bucket positions

Should not the r-bucket be raised a little over the thrust while in the neutral position? Had the boat in for a new steering cable and noticed that there's no difference between neutral and reverse setting. The thrust nozzle is at the horizontal center. I could have sworn it was raised a hair before I took it in. Haven't had it back to the water yet but it seems to me it would be in reverse instead of fwd when in "neutral". Any one have pictures of what the bucket positions should look like on a Utopia?

As I recall... on the merc engines... it's just a little above the nozzle. Almost not noticeable. But, it's raining hard, and my boat is covered, otherwise I would verify.

If it's not raining tomorrow... I will double check.

I looked at mine to make sure. The bucket should be higher in neutral than in reverse. Sounds like you need an adjustment.

Here you go23.jpg but remember each boat will be different.

Thanks for that. Looks like mine used to. Hate to have to go back to the same place that left it like that and ask to have them fix it.

I was told by the "technician" that he was in to the lever end of the fnr cable for some reason. I gather then that that would be the place to do adjusting. Any idea as to how, or should I just pony up and get a manual?

You can adjust it at both places. If you decide to look at the FNR lever then you will need the Sea Doo Manual and not the Merc Manual. Kind of tricky to get it out of the side panel but it is doable, just need to get it at the correct angle AND you have to remove the speaker.

To adjust it from the jet nozzle side it is much easier but that can only give you a limited amount so it really depends on how "OUT" of adjustment it really is.

Here you can see the cable on the starboard side of the pump, you don't have to remove the nozzle or bucket, I just had mine off at the time. Remove the cotter pin and then get to the screw pointed at with the arrow, that will let get to the shift cable retainer. At that point the cable can be adjusted.

Here is a picture of it with the stator on, the nozzle and bucket eat up more space.IMG_1926.JPG

Yea, well, joined up and can only find the glove box information. I need to know the step by step info....if it's even available. You know, the "how to" stuff.
I.E.; The "technician" left the reverse bucket in the full reverse position at "neutral" after replacing the steering cable. Says that's the way it's supposed to be. (Now you know why I may as well do this myself) So I have to somehow take the shifter off and adjust the cable as I see it. Summer's getting shorter all the time!

A couple things:

1) A lot of mechanics do that kind of work, because they are not capable of other things. And... even the good ones, have off days.

2) The manual you want isn't the Utopia manual. You want the Merc manual. It should be in the manual section. Or, use the link above.

3) What engine do you have? Please add it to your signature line.

There is a Chilton's or Clymer's manual like you can find for motorcycles or cars. When you go to the this sea-doo link make sure you are downloading all 10 sections of the shop manual, that is the book that will give you information on everything in the boat that in not in the engine bay, but still it will not be a full step by step. The forum is the best help for that.

This link will give you a step by step on doing maintenance on the Jet Pump which is the bucket/nozzle/stator/wear ring/shaft/housing. You just need to look at what area you are trying to get into, again this is for the pump and not the engine. There are a few difference as the writer states, "The pictures were taken of a Harbercraft 1975XL-200. Some details, especially the easy clean grate may be different between other models and brands." even given that it is the closest you will come to a step by step for the M2 jet pump.

I have never been in the premium section so I can't help you navigate through there, others might.

The forum is great, once you start working and you get stuck come to the forum with specific questions and they will point you in the right direction. Many a time you will also find that nothing makes sense because you are tired and when you wake up in the morning that light bulb goes off and you start to wonder why you didn't get it in the first place, it has happened to a lot of us.

1) Yea, your right. I just find it hard to accept paying someone to learn on my dime. Thanks for your shoulder.
2) Thanks for that, I'll have another look.
3) Optimax 250. I'll do that.
