rev limiter 88-89 yellow 587 engine

I swapped a yellow 587 into my 92 GTX, (blow white motor) and it runs and idles good however, if I accelerate quickly, the rev limiter kicks in and out, something I never noticed with the white motor. From some cyber surfing, I recall that the rev limiter is lower on the yellow engine, (5800 rpm?). I have an adjustable rev limiter that I was going to try, what RPM would be safe to increase to?.... or do I have possibly another issue?
