I have a 2003 Sportster LE which has a leak in the resonator. I cannot find a replacement and have been told these are no longer available. Unfortunately, I am also unable to locate a used replacement. My questions are....

1. Can I remove or bypass the resonator?
2. What issues might this cause if removed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1) I don't recommend it

2) overheated exhaust, improper tune, and a burnt up engine..... and so on.

Take it out, and have it patched. Not a big deal. BUT... since I can assume you play in salt water... you should flush it after each ride.

Thanks for the heads up. Any suggestions on how to patch? This is a plastic piece, so again, any advice would be welcomed.

Oh.... I thought it was the aluminum waterbox. (sorry)

If you melted the plastic... you have another prob. You may have starved the exhaust of cooling water. I would pull the hoses, and make sure the fittings are clear.

But... you can bypass the plastic parts.

Excellent! Thanks for the great response. My apologies for not indicating better which part was the issue. I will be sure to pull the hoses and make sure everything else is in good shape. Really appreciate your assistance.
