Resetting hours ?

Curious if the hours can be reset on a 96 GTX ? I'm not looking to, wondering if it can be done. I bought a pair of these in April & the info centers were cooked to the point that I couldn't read them at all. I recently did the repair that I found elsewhere on this forum that turned out beautiful. After cycling through I found that one has 98 hours & the other has 72. This seams incredibly low for 18 year old skis so....could they have been reset ? I haven't even figured out how to set the clock yet so I thought maybe it's something that can be done by the owner....

Steve.

From what i understand the hours are stored on the mpem and can not be reset. the only way would be buying a mpem with less hours on it. its not uncommon to find older skis with low hours. jetskis are kinda like pools to a lot of people. you get them, use it the first few seasons then they sit and dont get used.

those hours don't surprise me at all.
even down here in florida, I rarely run across a ski with more than 150 hours.
8-10 hours a year (sadly) is about right, people let them sit for 6 months, they don't start in the spring, then let them sit for 6 years.
The 2004 that I bought in March had 59 hours, I've run it up to 104 in 4 months.

Your talking about two different things.

The mpem will count from day one. You can only reset the maintenance and rental house. Total hours can't be AFIK. Programer just won't let you alter that field.

The Info center is completely seperate. I has its own counter and in theory should be the same as the MPEM or it will have more than the mpem. There is no reset that I can find. Even looking at the IC I think the only way to do it is to re-flash the original program onto it or add a switch for reset in the conde.

Actually the best thing to do is for someone to rip apart the info center and use an arduino to drive the stock display. Then just write the code similar to the stock one in function. Shouldn't be too hard, just time consuming...

I might be nuts but I average 100 hours per season at least :P And that's on a Canadian season lol

Haven't seen a ski with less than 180 hrs.

Oh and if you were to leave power on the info center so that the time counts up and then resets, Well it doesn't! You get to 999 and that's it. or it will spontaneously combust :P

To set the clock simply hold the set and mode down for 5 seconds, then press set to change the number and mode to move to the next number and then when your done just leave it and it will save that.

Also if you go to the speed mode and hold those buttons it will switch between mph and kph

Is there a way to get say, the Engine Temperature to stay SELECTED instead of it going back to the clock? Really annoying.

Thanks.

correct, there is no engine temp on that model.

In theory, somebody could replace the mpem (and maybe the infocenter?) and show lower hours, but honestly, at least IMO it makes very little difference, I can usually get an idea of how many hours are on a ski just by looking at the hull, engine, etc. Granted its just a good guess. And I really don't care either way to be honest except maybe on a 951 with 180 hours might scare the hell out of me, although that wouldn't impact 80% of the buyers out there, they don't know the difference.

In the same respect, my 2006 Yamaha has almost 300 hours but the engine is only 100 hours old, so I really don't care how many hours the gauge shows, I care about the overall health of the engine.

Cant make it stay in certain modes. That means you would have to change the programing.
