Can anyone tell me how hard of a process it is to replace the shifter cable on a single engine 155 HP 2006 speedster?

Mine has all of a sudden has become very hard to shift from neutral, forward , reverse.

May be in the shifter itself, they have a adjustment screw if you pop off the shifter beauty cover plate. Also it may be likely the linkages at the back side have a bad bushing. You can disconnect the cable at the back of the boat and try to turn everything manually. If it is hard to turn then there lies the problem.

I replaced the one on the Speedster I used to have. Worst part was getting the shifter assembly out of the hull, the screws were very frozen. With penetrating oil and some effort I got them all out, drilling with a left-hand drill bit was most effective of all methods. The bushing on the transom where the cable passes through also takes some improvising to loosen and tighten if you don't have the special tool.

I have the same issue in my 2006 Utopia 205 SE. Should I just go ahead and buy the cables now before taking it appart? Boat is in exceptional shape, was always pulled after use and live in a garage.

If so what part number is it and where is the best place to buy it? I see a ton on Ebay.
