i have a 1999 gti. that being said,

is this really neccesay ?

if i deciede to do this, there is no need to replace the vent lines, right ? maybe save some time, money, and headache

I would replace all them,, and clean/replace/or eliminate the gas valve,, Then pull the carb/S and clean the small filter/S,,

Otherwise you can do like me and look for a motor, stepson rode the snot out of ours before I cleaned the carb filter, now I need a 720 motor..

so do not be cheap, buy a box of black rubber fuel line a box of clamps and replace them one at a time, and CLEAN the filter

Change Them!!!!!!

Yes, change them ASAP.. I just bought two 94 machines, one had a bad motor and the other didn't run very well... When I took the carbs apart I found the little gas filters in the carbs to be packed with junk... I needed to soak them for a few hours in carb cleaner just to loosen the stuff up, even then I needed to pick at the stuff to loosen it.. I used the little plastic tube that comes with cleaner to loosen all the crap! While your at it convert to using premix fuel... the lines from the pump get brittle and break, I found that on both machines..

I would guess the lean condition gets quite a few unsuspecting owner/riders,,

I was just told to change the lines,, no one had told me about the filters till I came here, was a little late, but it happens

I have a new motor and will be putting it back together in my spare time,

it will be a runner when I am done so not all is a loss..
