I'm Considering replacing a 787 engine on a 98 speedster and am looking for some advice on what to expect. Anyone have a punch list for misc. parts/supplies needed to do this(other than the new/rebuilt engine of course)? I've seen a fair write up on removing this engine on a jet ski and seems fairly relavant but I dont want to run into unknown issues mid-project.

mark the stator assy/ draw picture, so timing is good. When removing the flywheel, I used the 3-exhaust bolts, threaded them in holes on flywheel, then attached puller. Keep crank'n, she'll pop. Dont lose the woodruff key on crank.
Some ideas for now, sure others will have some say....

Cool sounds like good advice, I will definately have one of my less mechanical buddies taking snap shots during the process. The fact that there is a 2nd engine is somewhat comforting for visual aid. I was hoping to hear from someone listing some commonly replaced items during this ie...fasteners, gaskets, etc...

IMO, before you decide on rebuillding or an SBT engine, try to take off the exhaust and head bolts. On my engine, 5 head bolts and 7 ex bolts broke off in the head. I gave up on the crankcase after the first snapped off. Should make SBT vs rebuild an easier decision if this happens.
