Hi all,
Another fuel gauge problem. I read all the threads I could find so far and pulled the float and checked the readings on it and they are all good. The fuse is good. The gauge stays at 3/4 full no matter what you do with the float so pretty sure it is the gauge.
Sea Doo wants $284.00 for a new fuel gauge. Does anybody have any thoughts or ideas on a different gauge that would work even if I have to change the sending unit with a generic type. Just can't bring myself to spend that much money for something so small...I've owned Harleys for years, sick of overpaying for parts!!!!
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When you say you pulled the float and checked the readings, what exactly do you mean? Did you check the resistance of the float with an ohm meter and saw different readings for different positions of the float?
Also, does the gauge stay at 3/4 no matter what, even when the battery switch is off?

Thanks for the input. Yes, the gauge is stuck right there, unplug it, power it up, on or off. All of the readings were in the limits when I checked it so it feels like it is narrowed down to the gauge.
I will check out the site and see what they have to offer. Anything cheaper than what Sea doo wants will be great!

If the gauge needle stays at 3/4 when power is off I think the needle is stuck (probably moisture corrosion) I'm pretty sure mine settles back to "E" when the power is off.

If you jumper the two wires together and turn on power, the gauge should swing full scale. If it doesn't could be wiring or gauge, not sender.

You can get a used gauge from many places, you don't need a new one as it's unusual for them to fail. About the most common failure on boat gauges is due to moisture penetration causing the movement to corrode.

Have a chat with Minnetonka4me , he can send you a good gauge and his parts are all tested before they go out the door, he doesn't sell junk.

the gauge stays at 3/4 even when the battery is off does sound like a stuck gauge. You could try removing it from the dash and giving it a good whack to see if you can loosen the needle. Other options are used gauges or some place like http://www.lspeedo.com
