I have a question i ordered a engine and took it to the marina for them to install. they have to take out the old engine and replace the new one. they are also going to clean all four carbs while they have it. they told me how much time it will take but i wanted an answer from a few of you on how many hours yall thought would take to do this job. i will let you know what they said once i get a few replies. i think they are screwing me!!!!!!!!

I hope they are certified seadoo repair techs. It should be about 8 hrs total with carb rebuild.

NO there not they sell sugar sand boats which i thought would be similiar to my boat. they said they have worked on these boats several times but they also said it will take 14 hrs total at 80 an hour. i would have taken it to a seadoo dealership but the only one around can't work on it till after july 4th. which i will pay more to get it done by then.

$80 an hour?!?!?!? Ouch!!! Is that the going shop rate for boats these days?

NO not at all. i can't even figure out how to clean the carbs on my own. i think i am mechanically retarded. I bought the engine off of SBT and that wasn't too expensive. motor $850, shipping $200 round ship 2nd day, and installation gaskets and carb rebuild kits were around $180. The labor is what is going to kill me but maybe they will finish it a lot faster than they think. but they still might charge me for 14hr. I have a 97 Challenger 1800

Mechanically retarded....lmao!!!, Hey..$2k or little less, your boats' done, get it out for 4th of July, not too bad, mason...
Wonder if, they give you trial warranty run, instead of warranty ends when leave the premicise, make sure, timing right, quick plug check, might be great on hose, but once opened up on the???

do i need to treat this rebuild engine as a new one as in breaking it in and what all do i need to do to do all of that. and it is more likely going to cost a total of $2500. but as long as it gets done and done right i won't complain. the only thing that scares me is that there not seadoo mechanics and i just hope they know how to get everything right.

If the motor didn't come with break-in procedure, especially from SBT, then should be on their website, but yah, let the oil imbed into the walls, bottom end..etc, but, not sure on sbt warr., on void warr, if installed wrong..timing, stator timing,...see what there site says, maybe just lot of downtime, if uncond warr.
