Having been "between Ski's" for the past 8 weeks now, I've been filling my Sunday's with totally yuppy activities. Tennis, Kayaking, Fathers Day crap, and some home remodeling projects. Its killing me... my thighs are turning to mush from lack of activity, and i'm starting to get grouchy according to my wife, and I believe her, because I feel grouchy.
The Florida weather is calling for me to get out there on the water in a big way, AND my daughter is coming down from college for a week and she is also really Jones-ing for a day out on the water I do NOT like to lean on buddies and borrow a ski except in extreme circumstances, and this is not extreme...
So I want to rent two sea-doo's for a half day, and not the stay between the bouy's rental for an hour, but a full 4 hour rental... or possibly a full day rental
So here's what I came up with from a local rental place... wanted opinions... Mobile Rental, they bring the ski's to the ramp, launch you and pick up 4 hours later,,, I wanted input before I made the call and asked a few questions...
Rentaseadoo.com is the website... but here's a quick summary.
Half Day rental 1-5 $200 per ski ($400)
Fuel per 1/4 tank Used $25 ($200)
$500 damage deposit ($1000)
Basically assuming I don't sink the ski's or have a mechanical issue (one of the questions i'll have when I call) i'm looking at about $600 to rent two 4 strokes for 4 hours... or $150 an hour including fuel ($75 per hour per ski)...
I will eventually get a replacement ski, but not likely before this coming weekend, so a rental is about my only option at this point..
Does this seem fair ? It seems somewhat reasonable to me... and much better than a 1 hour at the beach between the bouy's..
and i've rented ski's before when on vacation, and never read the fine print, always assumed there was a damage clause, but I've never seen a mechanical clause... which is really my main concern, i'm ok (i think) with the potential expense if I sink a ski and damage the engine, but not ok if the engine blows when I just happen to be on it.. so i'll certainly discuss that with the people when I make the call to inquire on availability.
anybody else ever had experience with rentals, like I said, i've never really read the fine print before...usually i just sign whatever they put in front of me, throw on a life jacket and take off...
