I`m going to be removing the fuel baffle soon. Looking to see the condition of the filter at the bottom and if there is any gunk in the tank. the tanks is 99% empty...

any tips or what to look or look out for?

The shop manual shows a 2 wire fuel sensor/baffle. The unit on the challenger 1800 is 3 wire... I will pay strict attention to the location of each hose. at this time all hoses on the baffle are being replaced with A1 USCG hose.

also there are 3 hose clamps on the baffle adapter, I`m guessing the upper clamp is the adapter to baffle and the 2 lower are adapter to tank...
Thanks in advance

I would either/or both....take a picture of it before you take apart and draw a diagram of where the hoses go. Usually on the top of baffle there are words to help direct you to what hoses go where. Label the hoses with tape as you take them off.

not that difficult if you mark and go slow & easy.

that is the plan to mark all hose barbs for location. I also have the service manual indicating position. Inquiring about any possible issues or don`ts when working with this baffle... I realize it is now 15 years old. I also believe the PO had messed with it, hence the re-do...

Thanks..

Andy,

As far as draining the tank, when I switched to pre-mix in the Speedster I drained the tank with a piece of 3/8 tygon tubing and 5 gallon gas cans to start from zero. I did the old siphon feed, line in the tank, line in the mouth and sucked the fuel until I saw it in the line and slapped it in the 5 gallon tank that was below the bottom of the Speedster tank, and let the siphon do the rest. Best thing to use is clear tube and make it a tad longer so you have enough time to get the tube out of your mouth.

Or get one of these from Harbor Freight, usually you can hit a coupon in a mag for $3.99
