alright so i bought a 96 xp about a month ago now, and at the time the guy i got it from said the injector simply was not hooked up, but everything was there if i wanted to. i have just been pre-mixing my gas, because i honestly prefer it that way and i don't know if the pump works. i had been talking to someone else about it and they said i needed to use a block off kit to properly remove the pump, because if not it could ruin my motor. mine right now just has the hose from the tank to the pump removed and blocked. i was told that the pump lubricates itself using that, so if i have it blocked off it won't and burn up. what is the truth behind this?

oil pump

Thats absolutely correct. That pump needs lubrication or it will seize up and spit all the teeth into your motor. (not good) you need to either hook it back up and be sure it works or at the very least pull the intake manifold and remove the gear so it does not spin:cheers:

well that's great, because i had no idea and have just been running it. i don't know if it even works, so i don't want to hook it back up. what all do i need to do to properly take care of this?

oil injection

I can only speak for the 720 motor but i'm sure the others are similar. take the carb off, you will then see the injection pump mounted on the intake manifold. take the intake manifold off...(there are i think 4 bolts)
When you get it off you will see the plastic gear with a nylon lock nut. remove the nut and gear, do not remove the rotary valve unless you know how to properly reinstall it. it's that metal circle with a slot in it. put everything back together and your good to go. I just put the oil injection back on mine last year. You'll use LOTS more oil pre mixing it.:chillpill:

yeah i understand i will, but i don't know if the pump and everything even works. i'm probably going to just take it in and have a shop do it, because i don't know if i feel comfortable doing it.

lampen...remove the 2-allen bolts hold'n pump to mag housing. Then slowly pull pump away to expose a white square shaft. Remove that shaft, and reinstall the pump. Walah...oil is "blocked off". Keep oil in the resivoir though, since your RV assy, still needs libed.

ok well that sounds really simple. is that all i need to do? if i need to do more i can try, i just don't want to lock it up.

thats it, I bought a block off kit just because I was ordering other stuff from sbt, but it was pretty much unnecessary. Since I removed mine I just stuck a bolt in the line going to the pump and put a zip tie on it.

I was curious if anyone has completely removed the cable from the carbs to the pump, I left mine on just incase I wanted to convert back, didnt really see any problem with leaving it on

alright, so i finally got around to pulling it off, and when pulled it off, there was no shaft. i'm thinking the guy before took that out as well, but i will post pictures to make sure everything is ok.

attached are pictures of what i took off. this was all that came out. i did not see a white shaft, and when looking in the hole, couldn't see anything else. let me know if i'm missing something, or if it was already done.
