I am trying to remove the seat bench bottom from the Challenger 1800. I removed the two bolts from one side with no problems, but I can not remove the two bolts on the other side. I am turning the bolts but they are not coming out. I think the nut inside of the plastic seat frame is turning.
I did try to have someone pull up on the seat while I was turning the bolt, but still know luck. Has anyone run into this and\or have any ideas on what I can do next?
Thanks
ok, you say the bolts are spinning in the seat bottom. they are a Rivnut threaded compression insert.
2 things:
first grab the bolt head with a small vice grip very tight, and bend the head back and forth to snap the head off, deal with the insert when the seat is out...
If, that doesn`t work, try and pull the seat up forcefully with out breaking it, you just want to pull out the inserts...
to repair the seat bottom, your going to have to make up an aluminum plate, cut a slot in the seat bottom to slide in the plate and pop rivet into place. you will need to install a new 6mmx1.00 threaded rivnut...
there really is no easy way, labor and time consuming... good luck...
someone did this repair to the original seat on ours. I also found a spinning insert and just pulled the seat up to pull it out of the bottom... I had a replacement bottom seat and chucked that one in the trash.
here is a pic of the repair from ??? previous owner or shop, who knows...
