Can someone give me some insight to the proper steps to be taken to remove a bad starter & replace? I have a 2003 gtx with 4-tec 185 hp engine.

Mirror....

Without a manual, the only thing I can tell you is to take a mirror and shine under the motor to inspect the fasteners of the starter, then remove them. Remember, the battery cables disconnected first. Normally, there are only one of two bolts holding these things on.

Thanks, I took it out and there are 2 bolts. Starter, solenoid, battery, and starter drive gear were all fine. I found later that there was water in the engine and I am fixing that now.

Cool.........

It's good to hear you got the starter out.

You said water in the engine. You mean in the cylinders? If so, there are several threads on "flooded" engines.

Open a new post if you need some help with that one. I'm going to close this thread, since your starter issue is closed.

Good luck,............
