Hi group I have the typical problem with no power on my 98 XP Starts and idles ok but as soon as you give it throttle it dies. It seems to be just running on one cylinder as I pulled one plug wire off as it was running and it made no difference one plug. So I checked for spark and it was ok. So I am assuming its a clogged filter in the carb( yes I have the grey fuel lines) and I did clean the filter under the hood.

I am trying to get at the carbs to clean the filters but I am having trouble getting the exhaust chamber off.( the big black sucker) The problem I'm having is trying to get the bottom bolt off , it seems impossible to get a wrench or socket in that small space, any suggestion on how to get at that bolt or is unbolting the manifold the way to go.

thanks guys:ack:

I don't know about your stubborn bolt problem, but I doo know that if you try to run it on those gray fuel lines, you are asking for trouble.
Some folks try to get by with leaving it, and hoping maybe they got a good run of gray fuel lines, but, no.

Get rid of them as fast as you can. Do not pass go, do not collect 200$, but DOO get rid of the lines!

I was amazed at what I found in my carb filter. It was like GLUE in the filter.

So, no matter what, they have to go!

There is a special wrench you can buy to take that bolt off, but i just did a carb change on a 2002 GTX without taking that thing off. It took a little longer but less gaskets to possibly tear etc. Put an allen key with a socket extender on it and it will undo the 4 bolts holding the carbs in. It is doable as per the shop manual. This was on a 951 engine w/ dual carbs. Grey lines inside looked like they ate McDonald's everyday. Filters were disgusting. Like someone poured a soupfull of dirt in each. (carbs) This on a 2002 with only 35 hrs as well.

It ran well this year but then instantly lost about half the rpms and speed and it was the filters and lines which i just recently replaced.

Part Number for the "special" wrench is

P/N 529 035 505
