I have a 92 xp which take the old style relays plugged into the module. Are they needed to crank the engine or will nothing happen when i hit the start button if they are not installed. The fuses are intact but I have to get the relays online as they are near obsolete and retail stores don't seem to carry them. Just want to be able to crank the engine, not necessarily start it at this point. thanks

Relays?

I'm not sure exactly what relays your talking about. But you don't have the DESS system, so if you just want to spin the motor over, you should be able to do it, even if it meant jumping the starter solenoid.

Look at the top, right hand side of this page. We sell your part.

the mpem (electronic module as it was called in 92) has 2 slots for 40 amp relays....one controls the ignition and one controls the charging system. I'm a little hesitant to try and crank without them for fear that I may damage something if they are not attached....although it may not crank at all without them....guess i will just try and see what happens. Got the fuses in place though so that should protect if something were to go wrong. thanks
