Hello there, this is my first post. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I own a 2006 Seadoo Challenger 180 (supercharged 215HP) and need some advice about oil. I looks like I made a rookie mistake...

I did my first oil & filter change today and I thought it all went well until I read in the forum that I should not use synthetic oil in my boat since as far as I understand, it has the ceramic slip washers in the SC.

Even though I mentioned the year / model of my boat to my local BRP dealer, he still sold me the BRP synthetic oil. I will drain it out and try to get my money back, but the main things I want to check with you are the following:

1) I ran the motor for maybe 5 seconds after I put in the new oil. I am planning to pump it out asap. I guess I am still OK, correct?
2) What mineral oil do I need to use? I am not buying the brp oil anymore... The manual says 'Use XP-S 10W-40 4-stroke oil (P/N 219 700 346) or an equivalent approved by BRP'. I get that I need a 10W-40 mineral oil, but with what API Service Classification? What oil is 'an equivalent approved by BRP'?

Thanks a lot!

Pretty much any 10w40 motorcycle oil will be good. That said, I still recommend the XPS oil. As far as your ceramic washers in your SC go, get them out of there ASAP and have them replaced with the updated steel ones before they come apart and you'll have to fish them out of your entire motor.

OK, thanks for the reply. Yes, I am thinking about doing the swap to the updated steel ones but the motor only has about 50 hours on it. After this, I' ll probably ro the swap as soon as possible.

I agree with KK403, you should have the SC rebuilt before you use the boat any further. Even though the boat has low hours, the old ceramic washers are now 7 years old. It's not really a question of if they will fail but when. It could be an expensive gamble to use the boat in its current condition.

As far as oil, valvoline makes a good motorcycle oil which is specifically formulated for 'wet clutches' and the SC washers are essentially wet clutches. I just picked up a few quarts this week from advance auto for about $6 a quart.

I run that Valvoline oil in my RXT and its $4.99 a quart in sale at autozone. Typically it's on sale all spring

The Valvoline oil sounds like a pretty good alternative to the xps mineral oil. Thanks.

I'll call the dealer and find out how much they charge to replace the washers. Things up here cost twice than what they should, but you guys are right, it's a expensive bet... It's incredibly annoying that BRP didn't issue a recall for this issue and we have to get it fixed with our hard earned money.

I found a supercharger rebuild kit which seems to be for the 215 HP motor at www.4-tecperformance.com. It has the new upgraded metal clutch washers. I will go this route I think.

I am also looking at just the washers from Riva, but the ones for the 06-07 years say 'Must be used with 2006 style Sea•Doo supercharger shaft part number 420881946 for RXP/RXT' Do you guys know if they would work with my motor? Thanks again.

The washers cost about 1/3 of the entire kit.

All you need is a NEW rebuild kit from seadoo. It comes with everything you need to rebuild it including the upgraded washers. If you're somewhat mechanically inclined removing the SC is very easy and you can ship it off to get it rebuilt for not a lot of money. There's someone on this forum that does it. You just ship him your SC and he'll rebuild it for you. I forget his screen name though. I have a PDF file on how to remove the SC out of a jetski. It's pretty much the same in your challenger. If you want a copy just PM me your email and I'll send you a copy.
