I have an 03' bombardier 240 speedster, just wondering what octane gas is recommended? I don't have the manual for it.

I think just regular 87 octane. I could be wrong perhaps Doc will check in. I'll move this thread to the proper Mercury powered forum.

Yep... what he said.

These engines only need "Regular" fuel. High octane is a waste of $$ and builds more heat in the crowns. If you live somewhere where all the fuel has alcohol... you can bump up to mid grade. AND, use a good fuel stabilizer to keep the alcohol mixed in.

Ok 87 octane it is. Do you recommend a certain 2 cycle mix? Synthetic or non synthetic? I don't know what the previous owner used.

I found the OEM recommended Mercury Premium Plus (semi synthetic) really improved the amount of smoke. The previous owner used something else and I was getting a ton of white smoke at start up and at idle. Now it is considerably better.

BTW, it is a bit expensive, but some marinas have it in bulk, just take your empty jugs in and get it for about half price.

I use Pennzoil XLF. Smoke isn't too bad and it's a good price. Honestly... these engines aren't too particular with the oil. Just use a good brand TC-w3 oil, and don't mix. (Stay with one brand/type) Mixing 2-stroke oils is were a problem normally occurs.
