Hi all - I’m new to this forum and new to PWCs. I am thinking of buying a 2000 Speedster w/ Mercury Optimax 240. Vin# CECF00311900, and some pix of the boat and engine attached. The engine has been rebuilt this past year (according to the ad, at least).

I live in Northern Finland on the Baltic Sea, so the boat would be run mostly in salt water (during the few short months we actually have it warm).
My questions to you all is: is running a Speedster in salt water ever a problem, as long as it’s washed thoroughly after each run? Secondly, does winter storage need to be done in a certain way if it’s severely cold (we can get down to below 0°F)? And thirdly, what is the opinion of folks on these engines? They seem to be finicky and prone to problems. Are they worth it? Or would you recommend going with a different Seadoo or other kind of boat/engine?

Thanks in advance!

Roger

You need to THROUGHLY go through the mercury forums,,do your homework!,,to see what possibly could await you,,,!!!,,

thanks Popps. That doesn’t exactly sound like a vote of confidence! I will have a look through the Mercury forums. I have phoned around to some mechanics but no one seems to work on them...

I always want to learn,,,sometimes,,a merc comes in,,,so i have many merc threads saved,,,and there are some unhappy merc owners,,,
Take your time,,,do your homework,,,and then you will know what to expect.
