00 challenger

New Member
hi i have read a lot of replacing new power heads after engine seizing and i have come across this problem myself. i have a 2000 challenger with the sport jet 210 and i wanted to know if when buying a new motor if i could replace it with the 240 instead. If so what would need to be modified to make it work. thanks

I'm presuming here that you have a model year 2000 Challenger 1800 or Challenger 2000.

The SportJet 240EFI was an option in both of those boats, which means it will physically fit in the engine compartment. There are minor differences in height/width/depth between the various versions of this engine, but they are all based on the same 2.5L V6 engine block.

The M2 jetdrive is the same across all versions of the SportJet, so the engine will mount directly onto your existing jetdrive too.

If you instead find an Optimax engine (200HP or 250HP), you'll want to make certain it comes with the exhaust adapter plate. This is the "shim" that connects the engine block to the jetdrive. The 210/240 share one, and the 200/250 use a different one, so if you move from EFI to DFI you'll need the proper adapter plate.

Basically, you should be able to drop any SportJet engine in there that you like. If it was me, I'd favor those of model year 2002 and beyond as they went through a design change that year to a more sophisticated ECU that is SmartCraft compatible. They also moved from a stator to a true belt driven alternator which I consider preferable.

Hope this helps!
