Hey guys I'm new to the site and have a question reguarding rave valves in a 98 XP Ltd. Thanks to several posts on the site, I cleaned mine for the first time. One of blades is pitted on the front edge and also on the back side. On the second blade the metal coating is starting to peel around the top threads, but not onto the shaft where the rubber o rings go. Are these major problems that would require me to change both blades?

They should be fine....

No, they should be just fine. The most important part is the tapered edge. To make sure it isn't chipped or bent anywhere.
What your describing is normal wear..............

Thanks for the help and a geat web site. Is it true that they need to be adjusted for timing? If so, can u explain the proceedure? Thanks again

Here is some info on the adjustmentof the RAVE valve.

I hope this helps.

Karl

Great info, Karl!!! I couldn't have said it better myself :reddevil:

I guess you hit copy, but forgot paste...

While Karl is cutting and pasting his stuff, I will tell you what I know. Basically, just put them all together and make sure the red screw in the top is flush with the top. I have heard you can sink the button all the way down, but someone else will need to tell you what the benefits of that are, if any.

Be sure you snap the rubber bellows onto the bottom securely, and there are no rips. I apparently did NOT do this last time and ended up melting a set. Use new o-ring if yours is hard, and new springs if there is any kink or stretch to yours. They are cheap, and when they leak and melt the entire unit, you could be out close to $200 to replace them all. (all from recent experience...:ack:)
