I was cleaning the Raves this evening on my 2006 Sportster LE. I had cleaned them 2 years ago. One valve came out easily (although fouled with oil) and the other seemed seized in place. I tried to pull it out and unfortunately broke the valve off at the end with the threads. So now I have to source a new valve.
My question is, what could be causing the exhaust valve to seize - as I recall it was difficult to remove the last time I cleaned it. I eventually got it out with locking pliers and a lot of patience. There was the usual carbon deposits but nothing seemed too out of the ordinary.
Full disclosure - I don't use the boat that often so it sits idle for months on end. It gets the usual winterizing though and it starts up fine. As I indicated in a previous post, it's a bit smokey these days - more than I remember.
