When I start up the boat (challenger 1800) I get a really loud metallic rattling sound from both the pumps. Would this be the wear rings just really worn out? Or something else?
Sorry if this has been covered I'm just too lazy to use the search function  lol

Is this your first SeaDoo boat? If it is what you're hearing is the SeaDoo rattle. There's about 1/8" play in the impeller shafts and until you are under load you will hear the rattle. Once the pump is under load about 1600 to 1800 rpm it will go away. I have my idle set to about 1600 to minimize the noise.

Yes this is the first, but I know it needs new wear rings. The gaps are massive in them lol.
So if its normal, thats cool! Any tips on regular matenence? I just cleaned the RAVE valves. The right side engine needs a new starter. But other than that the engine ran before the starter broke. Other engine runs flawlessly. Both are oil injection blocked off with the rotary valves in an oil bath.

Why does the starter have to be such a pain in the ass to get out? Lol

Driveway noises scare many people,,,

As Lou pointed out, under a load they will virtually be non-existent.

the starters are cake in boats, ski`s that`s another story...lol...

remove the airbox lid, and airbox and screen and you`ll be able to see to remove it...
pictures are your friends if this is your first time. and a shop service manual for the torque specs...

I already got at it and its out. One of the mounts is broken on the starter and it doesn't engage right. Sooooooooo I need a new one.

some prefer to only use OEM, you might be able to score a used one cheap.
I`ve been running SBT`s starters, so far so good...

when you have the pumps out for wear rings, that`s a good time to check the condition of the pump oil and bearings and shafts as well...

All the bearings will be checked and the pump oil will be changed when I get at it. It all needs to be done for sure.

cool...
some also prefer to use OEM wear rings. I`m trying out SBT`s delrin wear rings and so far I like what I see... I`ve had good luck with them in the GP1300 ski... just a tip...

Thanks for the tip ill try them out. Derlin seems like it would be a good material for wear rings. I don't care whether its Oem or not, I'm on a budget!! Hahaha

Alright so another thing,
One of my head bolts is missing in the left side engine and the hole was filled with clear epoxy
Which runs perfect and has good compression
Should I be concerned?

Like Harry Truman said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I'm guessing the bolt broke off in the head, possibly an expensive repair, so if you have good compression, no water in the engine, and it's running strong, I would just leave it.
