Quick fogging question....

Do you just spray the fogging oil into the airbox, or remove the flame arrestor and hit the carbs? I think the previous owner of my boat just shot the airbox because the flame arrestor/filter was COMPLETLY clogged with an oily black substance.

It's better to squirt that fogging stuff right into the carburetor throat directly, else not much makes it in and is wasted as a goop on the arrestor. An oily arrestor does trap dirt fairly well and will be dirty so clean well every year in solvent if metal type(solvents damage plastics) or hot soap and water if plastic (in wife's dishwasher might make a big mess?) and re-oil is okay IMO.

I just spray it in the hole in the air box. But then again... I wind up cleaning my air box once a year anyway.

Personally... I don't like running the engine without the airbox on. All kinds of bad will happen if something falls into the carbs when the engine is going.

Actually, for a quick weekly fogging I agree with this ^ if your airbox is complicated and requires disassembly of nuts/bolts/washers etc. to remove b/c there's a chance something might drop into the carburetor throat.

So the idea of removing the airbox is NOT ALWAYS the best approach!!! It's a judgement call.

For instance, in the case of the 951 there's just one clip to pop lose and there's nothing to fall into the carburetor.
