Looking to purchase a 05-08 Challenger 180 and need your expertise. My top pick so far is a 2008 with 50 hours for $15.5.
The owner says it is the regular 180 but I noticed that it has the bimini top and snap in carpet. The NADA book has the SE version valued at $2000 more. Why is the used SE worth $2000 more? Am I missing something?
How concerned should I be with hours? I found another with 130 hours. Should this sell for a lot less than the 50 hour boat?

Hey Newbe! This forum is great for people reading your post but not so much for replies??? Just a Seadoo thang I guess?

Anyways, your best berometer of true price is what the market will support.
Watch eBay and boat selling sites, search completed auctions thru the advanced tab and you'll eventually find wht they are really worth.

My advice is if you don't know jet boats, pay a mechanic to look the boat over before you buy it. It may cost you a few hundred but you'll learn and most likely not get stuck with a boat that you'll have to dump $$ into!

Good luck!

For starters, I have always found the people on this forum to be more than ready willing and able to provide an abundance of help on just about every category there is from purchase, use and do-it-yourself maintenance... Second, as someone who owns an '06 Challenger 180, I highly recommend the boat, I bought mine with 12 hours, currently have about 170 and have enjoyed 7 yrs of trouble free fun (with the exception of my neutral switch). It's a great all around boat, easy to tow, store, room for plenty of people and gear, agile (once you get used to the jet function) and quick...basically fun with some creature comforts...
Obviously a boat with 130 hrs has almost 3 times the use as the one with 50, but both could be pristine, pride of ownership, responsible care and use says more than the hour meter reading. What extras are included? trailer, extended warranty, vests, ski's tubes?
I'm sure you know the NADA value is determined working back from the original retail prices, when new the options (snap-in carpet, sat radio, wake tower etc ) all added costs, so when maintained in good condition, they continue to maintain a percentage of their value making that model with those upgrades worth more used.
Bottom line is YOU need to make your own evaluation based on what you see and feel, not off something you pulled up on the internet Examine the boat inside & out, ask for service records, why are they selling it? Do a sea trial, if you don't feel you have the expertise to do a comprehensive survey, hire a pro to survey and evaluate the boat for you, chances are good you will save back that cost and possibly a lot more, not to mention the joy of owning / using a trouble free boat.

Best of luck and happy boating!

I would also highly recommend the boat, I have the 05 and have had a couple summers plagued with maintenance but its 100% lack of "PRIDE" in ownership from the last owner. Its my experience with these boats that a lot of people just don't understand them and that's what leads to their dislike for them, so a couple of things to remember. First your ski rope will get sucked into your jet if you drive over it, a lot of people out of pure 0ignorance don't see a propeller so they think they're fine. Second don't power beach your boat, its recommended that you have at least 2 feet of water to prevent sucking debris through your pump. The pump getting messed up in these ways causes a lot of disgust for people but it is mostly preventable, granted you may not see something floating and get that, but its still worth it.
