Hi all

New meat here. I have a 99 gtx limited and have a few questions. i've had it 3 years and don't ride it more then 12 times a year. The thing runs fairly well, spark plugs are pretty clean (maybe a little on the oily side). The problem I've had is when i gun it from a stop it will bog down and usually stall out. this happens more so when it is cold but can still happen when warmed up. Also It tends to top out at 45/50 mph I'm told it should go faster (70), Im not sure if I want to go faster but none the less.

Anyhow I've browsed the posts, downloaded the manual and gather a dirty carb filter and rave? could be my culprits. Am I on the right path or is this just the nature of the beast? Just looking for a little direction before tearing into the thing.

Thanks

sounds like a fuel flow issue. the grey fuel lines are famous for dissolving the inside layer and depositing it inside your carbs. replace them. ALL of them. the returns and all. auto parts store fuel line is fine. then clean out the carb filters. 800 or 951 motor? either way, i don't think a GTX will ever do 70. maybe down hill. if you are doing 50 you aren't in bad shape.

:agree: Right on the money...I would still clean the carbs and the RAVE need it done annually. Let us know if you need any more help or if you get in a jam.

Thanks for the reply
Its got the 951 in it. Will the two carbs come off together or seperately? Having never tried this I'm wondering how tricky it is to resync the carbs In such a tight space.

Is there a detailed description for working on the carbs, I've been looking but can't find one on the site? The task seams fairly straight forward but more info is always better.

Thanks again

The information is in the manual for your model. The carbs will come off separately by popping off the linkage arm off one of carbs., than un screw them separately. I find it is easier to leave them attached together until it is on the bench. Just undo the fuel lines and Throttle cable. This way you won't have to sync them again. Keep track of the fuel line locations. use tape to mark what goes where. If you have problems finding the correct information, It should be in the fuel section under carburetors. I'll be back on in a few hours...I'll locate the information for you, by page # if your still having problems.
