Question about something I saw....

I was wondering if someone could tell me something. I am considering buying a 1997 Spx. It has Renthal handlebars. I am wondering what the part on the left handlebar that looks like a brake is? Thanks in advance, I have learned so much already from this forum.

they make finger throttle assy. probably, mounted it on that side..

Wouldn't the throttle be on the right? I heard a few things about manual VTS.. I believe that might be it, if that model even has vts..
