I have a 94 XP that recently seized up. The brass gear on the rotary valve has about 5 teeth missing. I am replacing the brass gear but while it was grinding on the gear to the crank the gear on the crank was slid down the crank to the bearing towards the PTO end. Do you have to take the crank apart to slide the gear back to the middle of the crank? Thanks for any help.

I haven't heard of the crank side gear moving before. But you're going to have to take it apart to clean the brass shavings out of the cases anyway so yeah, you're going to have to take it apart.
