Question about Carbs on 99 gtx

My father-in law purchased a 99 GTX. The doo will run if the choke is actuated continously, does not run at idle. I took it to the local dealer and they recommended rebuilds on both carbs.... for $475. I am no mechanic; but I am stupid enough to change a clutch in an 86 BMW with only the manual as my guide- so I decided to tackle the problem myself. I have poured over all the posts in these forums and consequently replaced all the fuel lines and cleaned the fuel selector, fresh gas, cleaned fuel filter and screen. The carbs are next if I can't get it to run. My questions is: do some of these doo's have only one carb? Because I see only one. Most of the pictures of carbs show two side-by side carbs. Am I crazy?

Sorry for the ramble.
