My 1997 Sea Doo SPX was running great for quite some time. One day after a couple of hours on the lake it just wouldn't start. There was no big noise or anything to make me believe something had gone wrong. The photos show a small nick out of the edge of the rotary gear and several teeth sheered on the rotary shaft brass gear. Nothing was dropped into the carburetor. If that were true it would have failed shortly after I rebuilt the Carbs many running hours ago. The screws on the choke and throttle plate are still in place. The spark arrestor and air box were in place. There is very little wear on the brass gear overall, the only damage appears to have happened when it sheared.
Has anybody ever had a similar failure? What could have caused this?
