So since the day I got my GSX ive been wanted to do something cool to it that isnt very common in PWC's. I thought a stereo would be cool but the ones designed for PWC's are realyl expensive and not what i wanted. A week ago I jsut went ahead and bought a normal marine stereo package and I just got it yesterday. I've spent hours just sitting and thinking of ways to make it work. I am thinking about just putting it in the front compartment and only using the stereo when I am out floating and not driving because then I can just open that up and crank the music. It would be really cool to have the waterproof speakers on the outside but i dont want to cut 6 inch diameter circles out of the body. But anyways, if anyone has some suggestions let me know. IM not sure many of you have tried this but i am open to any ideas. thanks!

For the speakers, you could retrofit the stock or aftermarket mirror housings to the hull. Then mount the speakers to the mirror housings themselves after removing the mirror plate. That way it looks a little more stock and keeps from drilling big holes (just little holes).

well I have one after market mirror mounted on my ski but I dont understand any way to make it look decent by mounting a speaker to it

Why not get battery operated wireless speakers and epoxy them to the side of a motorcycle helmet? That gets the speakers close to your ears so you can still hear them at 60mph and you don't have to worry about any wires.

using the mirror pods were cool idea, or can use wafer board, rig up housing on lid, then lay fiberglass to mend it in, or use/buy used or old, compartment hood for mold...also, if you dont double ride, use the back seat area for something/speaker...

Well this is what I am using for the stereo.

I dont need an amp or anything but I plan on using fiberglass or some plastic sheet in the hood to mount the receiver thingy. Im just not sure about the speakers. They are 5.5 inch diameter so they wont fit in the front compartment if i mount them with the receiver unless I tilt them or something and have them deeper in there.

well thats interesting mark, I dont know if i should just sell what i have and try that or keep going with what ive got. I just want decent sound and it to look cool. His way looks easier and way cheaper so maybe that is what I will have to do. Im not sure if the speakers i got with the package will put off enough sound anyways. it came with four 25 watt waterproof speakers and i will only be able to use 2 most likely

Well, now you've got me interested in doing this. I've been looking at different things on Ebay.

yeah its going to be pretty sick when I get it all working. I dont really understand how those 15$ speakers work. It looks like people mount them inside the ski and the sound is still really good. im pretty confused on how that works out.

I'm planning a system on my new 08 Wake 215. Using a 2-channel marine amplifier that will have an iPod connected directly to it. 6.5" Alpine Marine speakers will supply the beats, not 100% convinced of mounting location, but for now I'm thinking on the sides just above the footwells.

I'm a little timid to cut out 6" holes in my 2 week old ski too, but I have to have tunes!

yeah I totally agree. I'm pretty sure i am jsut going to cut 6 inch holes in the sides of my ski. if i do it clean and take my time, it will look really good and the sound will be awesome

Please document the project as you go forward here on this forum. I would like to see how to do it.

Ok yeah I just ordered a pair of those speakers and i am going to mount them on the inside of my ski. They are supposed to make the surface you mount them to into a speaker and the sound will go right through the surface so I am hoping fiberglass is a surface that works. I am looking for plastics and stuff that I can use for mounting the deck in right now and once I have that I will begin installing everything. Ill make sure I add pictures for you guys to see

I did it! I can post pics of amp location and wiring later, but here's photos of the cutout and speakers mounted! No head unit, running iPod directly to amp thru 3.5mm/RCA cable. Sounds SO good on the water and out of the water!

thats pretty ballsy cutting those huge holes but it looks good. my setup is way lo-profile and is underway but ill post pictures when i can

hey. dont use the same stereo i used. It doesnt give off enough power. I would spend the extra money on a nice stereo deck and then buy some good marine speakers separate. I have a really nice flat spot in the nose of my ski that I mounted the extra battery to and that works great.

yeah go to that link its all on a different thread. under the How-To section. I made a little tutorial with video and pictures of the finished product
