I have a 96 XP. Runs great for 10 minutes then it starts running poorly. I tried to get some idea's here but no one answered so I took it to the shop. The guy is telling me it is vibrating too much (which is true because its rattled bolts loose from the manifold) He tells me he is going to pull the pump to see if its in the pump or a bad engine. Does this sound right?

I did check compression when I bought it three weeks ago and it had like 145 or 150 in each cylindrer

probably somebody had this motor out before, and sisnt set shims on the mounts, or the number of shims, right, on each mount. Or one or more mounts may be cracked/broken. I've set motor alignment, by keeping motor bolts just abit loose, then hit start button a few times, to help sit motor in alignment with pump/driveshaft(axle). Worked everytime...

I can't be positive but I don't think anything has ever been done as far as removing the engine. The guy that owned it was a lawyer and it sat for like 3 years since he rode it. I guess that's why the shop is thinking pump. I was trying to find out if anyone else has had a similar issue or anything. How would the motor be off balance in the mounts if it hasn't been touched? Is there rubber bushings that may have fallen out or something?

mounts are rubber on a plate, in which, could be from dry rotted, the mounts are loose from the plate, that would cause vibration. Get ski, and pull on motor/pipe, see if it lifts up, anywhere...

i would have to agree with timmyboy here, i would suspect the motor mounts if it is vibrating like that. i would work from there, i wouldn't think that it would be motor or pump related to vibrate like that.

the shop called and told me the pump is good. The mechanic told me it had to be internally in the motor so i told him to box up the parts and I'd pick it up tomorrow. Maybe I can try your suggestions and go from there
