I changed the pump oil on my 1999 XP and the refill screw wont tighten up . It just spins all the way in. I tried putting sealent on it but after using it I pulled it out of the the water and saw oil in the water. Should I order a new cone?

Thanks
Mitch

You could either order a new cone or go to a hardware store and get the next bigger allen screw and tap and drill it bigger and tap the hole and use the new allen screw. It might be cheaper to do this than replacing the cone.

No stop;

There is no stop on that oil fill plug. If you keep turning it, it will drop into the cone.

The manual says to secure it with Loctite and tighten it till it's flush with the cones casing.

If I'm reading your post right, you changed the oil in the cone and ran it one time, then checked it again and there was "water in the oil".....is this correct?

If so, this may have nothing to do with your cone. The cone is only a small void for putting the oil into. The oil actually passes through the cone, thrust bearing, jornal and into the cavity of the impeller bearing housing. There is a seal ("0" ring) in the nose of the cone and a seal at the back, where the impeller shaft passes through. When you replace the bearings, your suppose to do a pressure test to ensure the seals hold 10 pounds for 10 minutes.

You could have had water in it before you ever removed the cone. If you didn't remove the pump and dump it upside down, then you still had 80% of the oil in the housing.

I was going to say the same thing but Louis beat me to it. Good luck :cheers:

That is correct it did not have water in the oil when I first removed the cone. I drained out all the oil I could by lifting the front of the sea doo. I put a new oil ring on the cone along with a little sealent. I fill it back with oil but when I went to put the plug back in I could not get it tight so a put some silicone on the screw and waited a few days be for puting it in the water. It ran fine with out any signs of oil leaking out ,Till I removed it from the the water. When tilted up I had sighns of oil leaking into the water. Thats were I stand now. I did put the screw in further then you recommend.
