Pulling a tube

Just bought a Frequent Flyer tube that will hold 1-3 people. I've never pulled a tube before and am looking for any tips/adivce. What is a good speed? Fast enough to be fun but don't want people getting beat up too bad when the fall off.

Also, any techniques for throwing them off are welcome too :hurray:

Thanks!

Also when you pull a tube always turn toward the center after the turn so the line won't slack and jerk the tube out of the water. It the passengers scream...that means go faster...

The fun in the tube is to get one that is not to big and find a speed that is not so fast that it will through the person in the first turn. You have to learn to controll the speed so that the ride will last at least a few minutes you will know if you got it right if they are out of energy after 5 minutes of pulling them and they have a hard time geting back in the boat. Do not wear them out to fast or it will not be that much fun for them.

All the teens like 40 to45 with my big tube but with my small low profile tube they can not handle speeds above 25 mph in the turns.

Have they ever fallen out at that speed? I have fallen a couple of times at that speed and it can hurt quite a bit.

Also, I find anything above 30 and the jet wash on my boat (a 2008 speedster 150) tends to reach a tube on a 60 foot line (not much fun). A longer line might fix that.

We are all ways turning so they do not spend very much time directly behind the boat. If it is not a thrill they get board fast. You need to stay closer to 20 mph with litle kids or they will not find it fun and will have a bad idea about going again. Do not ruin it for people or they may hate boats. Every one has a diffrent way of seeing things so do not make new people feel uncomfirtable. Take it slow at first untill you see them smile and then you know they are ok.

Agreed....

I agree Robin on the speed robin but.........my youngest daughter, who is 6 years old, was on her second or third ride on a knee board. The one most important thing I forgot to go over was, to let go of the rope if you fall. With her weight and the bouyancy of the kneeboard, I wasn't going more than 10 or 12 mph but when she fell, I couldn't stop fast enough. She still got buried.

She still loves the tube...She falls from it cause she won't sit still. She thinks she has to go from the sitting postion to the layin position ever few minutes.

Oh, for those that may think she's a bit young. She learned to swim when she was late 4, early 5 at the YMCA. Both my daughters are like fish in the water but I never take that for granted.

Have fun!............stay safe..........drive the right speed!........

Went tubing this weekend. Thanks for the advice guys. I kept it about 20 -25. Everybody on the tube was pretty new at it so didn't want to scare em too bad. Was still able to throw everybody off in a few laps. I had forgotten just how funny it is to see people bouncing around back there. I looked back once to see my wifes butt about 1.5ft above her shoulders and eyes the size of silver dollars :hurray:

The boat with 6 people on board, two coolers, life vests, and all the other usual crap still did a great job of pulling the 76" tube.

Once we were done tubing it sustituted well as a big float for the 4 girls. I was a little concerned it was going to be too big, but it's perfect for our needs. Have to say, I couldn't be happier with the purchase.

I fell off my tube at WOT didnt hurt got back on and did it again!!!! tubing with the seadoo boat is way for fun then the Doral...

I was out tubing with my son the other day and a whale breached a hundred feet or so from where we were. I never thought someone could run on water until I saw my son trying to get back to our boat. Scared the crap out of him. I must say though, being in a 15 foot boat that close to such a big animal was a bit intimidating.

Tubing!

Both my kids love to tube behind our speedster! So do I! Keeping them up and over the wake is the best at around 20 MPH! They use hand signals when they want to speed up or stop!:)
