neither of the carbs where synced one lsa was 2 turns out other about 2 1/2, HSA was out 1 1/2 turn out other 1 3/4? would these be the reason i am having the problem below?

well it starts in the water, when i go to accelerate it doesnt feel boggy bud it just doesnt want to go no matter if i push the throttle all the way or just a bit it jsut gradually gets up to speed which is like 25mph. then it jsut seems like i have to sit at that speed and play with the throttle around 3/4 way down to get it to open up. If i mat it all the way it will bog and not move. it will also only go partial wot for a few seconds and then falls on its face, and just turns off in the middle of going. My last run out i was able to get it going at partial WOT for about a minute and jsut fell on its face. seems once it falls from going WOT i have to sit their and play with it to get it going decently again. finally got back to the dock pulled the plugs the lower one ( towards seat) looks mint nice chocolaty color, the top one looks rich, very dark like a dark chocolate. also compression is 140 on both. i really need some help guys i am going back out friday to play with this thing! IS it an airflow problem? fuel delivery/carb?

i also forgot to mention that it has an after market ape pipe and a increased rev limiter box in the ecu box. with the exhaust will jetting be different? also would a leaky exhaust cause an issue, or does it sound like a carb issue?

Carb adjustment..

Seems like you got some mixture problems.

When you begin to accelerate, the low speed jet and high speed jet have a transitioning time. During mid range, your getting fuel from both.

Your completly right about synced....both carbs should have the same setting.

Reading the spark plug. To determine the settings on the high and low speed screws, you'll need to follow two steps. Idle the craft around for about 5 minutes. Use no throttle. Then, kill the engine and look at the plugs right then.
Then, you'll need to run the ski WOT (I know, you may not be able to) for about 10 minutes. Do not come back to idle. Kill the power will under throttle, then, pull the plugs right away and read them. This will help you determine if the high speed screw is lean or rich.

The low speed screw is forgiving. You can turn it out 4 turns and maybe, foul a plug. You can turn it all the way in and it'll just run like crap. May starve for fuel and shut down. But the high speed screw? If you make to big adjustment and run to long, you could lean out the engine and do some damage.....so, be carefull on that one.

The high speed screw should be closed, or cracked no more than a 1/4 turn open. The stock exhaust sytems, we run closed. With your aftermarket pipe, I'd run about 1/8 to 1/4 open.

Read the plugs often till you get it worked out. And also, check the syncro on the linkage itself. Pop off that syncro lever with the mag carb off the idle stop screw. Both throttle plates should be closed. Then, adjust that linkage to keep them even with each other...........

i will give it a whirl tomorrow in the water i just set my carbs back to what they should be with my pipe, they where dialed way out. thanks for the help!

Question?
I have seen this comment made a few times...If the High speed screw was actually closed that would mean less fuel/oil and therefor VERY lean. Are you trying to say, turned all the way to the right WITH THE FACTORY CAP ON THE SCREW AT FACTORY SETTINGS?. That would be fine...but all the way closed without the cap on is a bad idea.

Believe it or not that is the way it is supose to be. Even though it is all the way closed it is designed to get the proper amount of fuel by the properly metered jet.

Well good... I have my high speeds set at 1 turn out after a carb rebuild and and she runs good (stock metering jets)...just a tad bit rich, plugs are a little dark brown. The motor is 11 years old and always ran hard (sat for 2 years until this weekend). It has 150psi compression on both cylinders (787). If running it closed to 1/4 open is fine, I feel safe at 1 turn for now...

BTW it is a PITA to get to adjust Mag high speed screw with every thing in place. The angle of the screw doesn't allow the use of a normal screwdriver.
