i am a newbie seadoo owner. just bought a pair of seadoos (96xp and 95gtx).
fired up the gtx and it ran great but billowed huge amount of grey smoke and started pouring oil out of the exhaust.

have been told it is probably a rotary valve leak and was a very expensive fix.

if i abandon the oil tank altogether and pre-mix fuel, will i still have oil+gas flowing out?

thanks in advance for any help or advice given.

can't wait to get these toys on the lake!

get it fired up with hose/water runn'n thru it for few minuts. Make sure oil is in the resivoir, then turn ur off, and mark the res bottle where oil line is. Then give a day, and see if oil level is below. If so, then you have a leak'n inner seal/s, which calls for new crank assy. You can "pinch" the line feeding the "case" WHEN NOT IN USE, make sure you un-pinch when using. Little bit oil burning wont hurt, but keep some extra plugs with you.

You can "eliminate" the resivoir, but the line going to/from "case" needs oil, to lube/oil bath the RV assy., only problem is, if your seals are leak'n, then eventually, the assy will run dry...NOT GOOD.

thanks timmyboy76............is there some kind of attachment for running a hose through the system.

also, do you know how expensive of a fix this might be.

thanks,

Fix....

If you look at the bottom of your oil tank, you'll see two lines about 1/2". The one with the oil filter goes to the variable rate injection pump. The other goes to your rotary worm gear chamber. If you look at the top of the tank, you'll see another hose of the same diameter, this is the vent line from the rotary. Even if you go premix, you cannot remove the oil tank because you have to maintain that rotary chamber.

If the leak is that bad, where you see a lot of oil draining through the exhaust, you might try to use an "oil stop leak" product in the chamber. You'd have to isolate the tank, remove the bottom hose and pour in about 4 ounces and then, reconnect the oil line. You should only do this before you start so that the product will get hot right away and hopefully, expand the seals again for a fix.

Your only alternative is to remove and replace the crankshaft. The seals can not be removed from it. You can get a remanafactured crank from SBT.

On the back of your jet, you should have a hose connection where you can back flush it. If no connection has been installed, you can install one...........

BTW, what kind of oil are you using. If your using a TCW-3 oil, this is why you developed a leak in your rotary seals..........

Hey Louis when i rebuilt my engine i noticed that my rods and guessing the crank, brand name is Hotrods, the guy i bought my seadoo from has always been using full synthetic Pennzoil tcw3 (premix). same oil as well on the oil res. so i was wondering since i believe hotrods rang up a bell not made by BRP, maybe the crank was replaced due to using the tcw3. Or In other words is it common to have Hotrods part on a seadoo? thanks
