PTO/Flywheel removal

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get my PTO and flywheel off the block. I went through the threads and couldn't find much. I tried putting a rag through the exhaust manifold as suggested by Seadoosnipe when trying to remove the PTO but just ended up with two towels as the piston ended up cutting it in half. My goal is to get it ready to buy a new block from SBT. I had piston failure and it does not look good. I think i have decided to replace everything instead of piece by piece because it IS a 1994 SPX and being 15 years old things are just going to start to go when trying to fix other things. So my question...is there an easy way to get the flywheel off? I got the nut off but cant pop the flywheel off. I really didn't want to buy a puller but if that is the only option I probably would, I haven't tried heat yet either. I dont really know which part im supposed to get off if im just going to put it on a new block... the little plug in the middle or the big wheel with teeth. I dont want to mess up the timing. The PTO will not budge either. I attached some pictures of my two pistons...not good. Thanks for the help.

You'll have to use a puller the remove the MAG flywheel and since you're replacing the engine, pull out the crankshaft and put it in a vice. The unscrew the PTO flywheel with an impeller tool and a socket.

Thanks...I havent been able to get the bottom end opened up. The bolts were bending my allen wrench. Tomorrow I will try to spray something on them to get them to break free so i can get the crank out.

It's a Bitch

Once the head is off it's a bitch to get the MAG or PTO off... I did the same thing your doing! I made a tool that bolts across the mag with a hande so I could hold the engine from turning white I took the crank nut off.. I used heat (locktite) and a breaker bar to get the nut loose and wheel puller to remove the mag..
