I took my boat out yesterday and I am still having problems with he starboard motor. It rev's up high when started and when throttled up to 7g's it starts losing power and goes back down to 4000 and then back up again. It does this for a while and eventually dies? What is going on. I have seen many ppl mention the gray fuel lines and most of mine are black except two the go from the fuel pump to the carburetor. Do i still need to change those and I know someone is going to ask about a compression test but I do not have the tester and my local parts store does not carry them. Thanks

By the way my port side motor runs great and everything seems to be working well with it.

It's going lean. DO NOT KEEP RUNNING IT OR YOU WILL BURN IT UP !!!!!

Either you have:

1) And air leak in the feed fuel lines

2) The pop-off is excessively high

3) A plugged up main jet.

4) an air leak on the base of the carb or manifold.

Regardless... the carbs need to come off, and be checked. Then... check over the hoses for a lose fitting, or other possible leaks. On the suction side... a leak allows air to come in... and you won't necessarily see fuel coming out.

Thank you for the response I will pull the carb off tonight and check it out and trace the fuel lines. Can you be more specific about the "pop-off is excessively hight". Is this something that I can adjust??? How would I determine if that is my problem. Thanks.

Check out the links in this post: http://www.seadooforum.com/showthre...996-Challenger&p=325683&viewfull=1#post325683

They describe pop-off and how to adjust.

Also, in that thread you'll see how I killed my freshly rebuilt engine by running it lean from an air leak in the carb gasket.
Dr. Honda wasn't kidding when he said not to run it like that!
