I too have an hour meter that does not work properly, my dealer was supposed to have fixed it last year. I have only registered 2 hours this year, I know I should have about 35-40 hours total on my gauge. I also have an issue with the digital compass, when I head out to Gull Island it reads dead East but if I head back dead West I end up a mile away from launch. I have to head NW on my way back, seems strang to me. Maybe it is because the magnetic pole shifted while I was out on the water LOL!

Also, I am having a problem with acceleration, it won't go past 14mph. I have it in for repair right now, they said I might need a new pump or I have a wear ring problem. Any idea what it would cost to have this repaired?

"Any idea what it would cost to have this repaired?"

Yeah, alot of money! (bad joke, ok?)

What I can say is that these are specialty crafts. The reason this forum exists, is due to dealer costs gone crazy. This forum allows the free exchange of information, from competent persons, with some common sense.

Simply put, the guys that volunteer and answer your questions are some of the best in the world, and they understand the economics of the situation.

Dealers have trouble finding competent mechanics themselves. Boat mechanics don't cut it. Motorcycle mechanics don't cut it. You have to have somebody who can work on a bastard machine, that is about 1/2 way between a motorcycle, and an high-performance outboard motor, with German engineering! So, they sometimes have to charge double, so they can fix it twice!

It's a real blessing if you have a local shop, with a competent mechanic, that only charges to fix it once, 'cause they know what they are doing! This is not too often. Some of the good shops charge twice, and fix it right, because they can.

So, my comment is: Walk around with BOTH eyes open, and learn stuff, and you will have a more enjoyable experience with PWC.

I have a 1998 GS, that I have done a bunch of things to, and it now runs perfect, with the help of the guys on this forum.

Fixing your own machine is not only fun, but alot cheaper, and you hear about crazy dealer stories.

Stick around the forum. Be sure and post your experience with the dealer.

PS, don't ever let the dealer charge you to change the blinker fluid! It's cheaper to do it yourself!

Thanks Nate,
I luckily have a warranty but I don't think it will do any good for me in this situation. I am going to break down and by the manual, I am already done with having to take it in when it needs repairing.

What good is a warranty, when the dealer you take it to, has an incompetent mechanic, who messes it up, and you discover it right after the warranty expires?

I cannot express how many times I have re-fixed stuff, after a shop worked on it. (cars, trucks, saws, bikes, anything mechanical)
