Problem with recent MPEM conversion on 1997 speedster

It all began in Oct 2012 when Sears melted my brain by installing the new battery leads backwards. Their insurance co. stepped up to the plate and $2400 later I now have the conversion kit installed that you guys were kind enough to tell me about, and I have found a good mechanic who seems to know his way around these boats from Hell. 2 weeks ago when he delivered the repaired job he started it up for me and all was well, however.........NOW the keys (I have 2) do not give the 2 beeps when inserted onto the post and I get 1 short beep when I press either start button........and motors do nothing....nada....zip. Oil "low" light is on, but there is about 3" visible in tank. If this is an oil problem I don't want to drag the guy over here just for that, but if it is a conversion-related issue then he owns it, and I'm sure he will fix it.

What do you think? Do I go buy some oil first, or go ahead and call him over ? My suspicion is that the oil light has nothing to do with this, and the fact that it started fine 2 weeks ago tells me that my post and keys are OK. The single loud short beep tells me that the beeper is working, but it seems that it is the ONLY thing on this dog that is all right.

Ideas please ?? Once I sign off on the insurance claim I cannot go back to the well for more $$ from Sears, so I want to make sure that this electrical thing is totally nailed before I let them off the hook.

You are correct I don't think the low oil light is part of the problem, the oil light comes on way before you really need to add oil, mine comes on when the oil is a little less than half full.

Not sure what one short beep means, could it be a long beep? According to the manual one long beep means bad connection between post and lanyard, unprogrammed or defective lanyard, salt or dirt on lanyard cap, or bad MPEM or wiring harness.

Did you get the MPEM from seadoo source? If so I would EMail them with your problem.

Problem solved ! The boat mechanic ( my new hero) came by and found the positive cable to the battery was 2/3 corroded through, so he cut it and put on a new end terminal and bango !.........all is good. I guess the moral to this story is when you have a problem, start simple and then get more complicated. One would think that the "battery profeesional " at Sears would have noticed this when hooked it up, but then, if he knew what he was doing he would not have connected it backwards, would he ?

Duh...........

The only requirement to be a "battery professional" at Sears is a 3rd grade education. Hey I just got an idea, my brother Jake and I should apply. How much does it pay?
